Dr. Johari Harris
Research Assistant Professor, School of Education and Human Development, University of Virginia
Dr. Johari Harris examines how social identities, specifically race and gender, along with cultural values systems, like Afro-centric values, influence African American adolescents social-emotional competencies. Her research is grounded in intersectionality, developmental psychology, and social psychology theories.

Dr. Decoteau Irby
Associate Professor, Educational Policy Studies, University of Illinois Chicago
Dr. Decoteau Irby is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies where he teaches and advises in the College’s Urban Education Leadership program area. He researches equity-focused school leadership as a lever to improve Black children’s academic and socio-emotional experiences and outcomes.
