This month GTY is featuring one of its partners, The Funders’ Collaborative for Innovative Measurement (FCIM). FCIM launched in October 2015 to support collaboration, advance the “hard to measure” competencies field, contribute to shaping its direction and invest in innovation. FCIM provides leadership and the “connective tissue” to elevate and act on strategies. For example, FCIM has invested in the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Taxonomy Project, RAND Repository Project, the Assessment Work Group run by CASEL and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s international study of social and emotional skills.

Promoting Positive Youth Development Through School-based Social and Emotional Learning Interventions: A Meta-Analysis of Follow-up Effects

CASEL’s review of 82 positive youth development programs serving 97,000 students found that students who participated in SEL instruction show sustained improvements in academic performance and social behaviors, and decreased susceptibility to emotional distress, conduct problems, and drug use.
