Young people deserve economic and workforce development policies that enable them and their families to thrive. This session will feature young people and field leaders discussing how the current economic and workforce policies are impacting youth and share a vision for economic justice that would allow all young people to thrive.

This program is free and open to all. GTY’s webinars and funder learning opportunities are made possible through the time and expertise of presenters from the field.

In the spirit of transparency, GTY will make available the list of webinar participants to presenters upon request, unless the registrant requests to remain anonymous (please indicate your preference via the registration form).

Speakers

Dina Emam

Program Associate, Center for Economic Opportunity, The Annie E. Casey Foundation

Dina Emam is a program associate at The Annie E. Casey Foundation in the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO). Within CEO, she is a member of the Employment, Education and Training portfolio team. In this role, she leads the Center’s investments in job creation and youth and young adult engagement. She also manages the Foundation’s Learn and Earn to Achieve Potential Initiative, a national effort to build and strengthen supportive career and education pathways for young people with connections to the child welfare system, the justice system, and young people who are experiencing homelessness. Prior to joining Casey, Dina was a research associate at the Urban Institute, where her work focused on establishing an evidence base for strategies to build economic opportunity in under-resourced communities across the country. She served as an evaluator on federally funded randomized control trials to assess the impacts of various financial empowerment strategies and has led research on the implications of health care reform on youth aging out of foster care. Dina holds a Master of Applied Economics and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Swarthmore College.

Juan De Los Santos

New Deal for Youth Changemaker

Juan De Los Santos is a graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills, with a Bachelor’s degree in History. He is a New Deal for Youth Changemaker and has worked with California Youth Connection (CYC) for over two years, serving in various roles, including as a commissioner on the Member Executive Commission—and holding critical positions within the LA chapter. He has also been a part of the LA Foster Power Coalition, which comprises four member organizations, including CYC.

Juan’s motivation to be part of these spaces of change stems largely from his lived experience within the foster care system and his drive to transform it for the better.
